Why Your GA4 Data Is Probably Wrong

The cleanest way to implement GA4 is via Google Tag Manager (GTM). This lets you:

- Add events and custom dimensions without developer involvement
- QA everything before pushing to production
A direct GA4 snippet in your site header works too — but it's harder to maintain and easier to break.
What to Track Beyond the Basics
Once your core events are live, layer in:
- Scroll depth — are users reading your content or bouncing?
- Video engagement — are product videos being watched?
- Form interactions — where do lead gen forms lose people?
- Internal search — what are users looking for that you're not surfacing?
- UTM parameters — are your campaigns tagged correctly so you know what's driving revenue?

Before trusting your data, run through these checks:
- Is the GA4 measurement ID firing on all pages (not just the homepage)?
- Is enhanced e-commerce tracking active?
- Are purchase events deduplicating correctly (no double-counting)?
- Are your UTM parameters being captured in campaigns?
- Is your conversion window aligned with your actual sales cycle?
